Dear Mr. Goldring,
I am in receipt of your letter of date
enclosing copy of a letter from Hon. Secretary Law Society with reference to the occupation by Crown Solicitors of Offices in the new Hongkong Law Courts for the use of his private practice. I observe the Committee with the exception of Mr. Dennys the President was of opinion that the use of offices by Crow Solicitor in the New Court Buildings for his private practice was wrong in principle and with that opinion I entirely agree.
In reading the reply of the Hon. Secretary,
it would appear that Mr. Dennys was of a contrary opinion.
If this be so it makes the case the more
strong he having entered into the merits being an interested party in the question. In a case of the kind it is usual for the Chairman or President to vacate his office for the time being on a question in which he is interested being discussed and adjudicated upon, I conclude you intend ** bringing the matter without delay before the Officer Administering the Government, and I only trust the Government will see well in at once deciding that the offices of the private practice of a Solicitor should not be carried on the Court House.
.A
I shall be glad to hear from you when you have received the decision of the Government here on the matter.
The Solicitor of the High Court of Judica- -ture at home and the Solicitors who happen to hold the office of Registrar of County Courts in the country have offices in
the their official position in the Court house buildings, offices of their private practice being outside the Court.
Youre ato » ; (Sa.) M. J. D. Stephens,
Philip W. Goldring, Esq.
